After moving to Los Angeles to attend Otis College of Art and Design, I was inspired by the welcoming, artistic community of the local party scene. Drawing on my background in game and entertainment design, I wanted to give back to my community by creating visual communication that thoughtfully represents our niche. I chose the name Connection because of the literal production of the music through electronics and the emotional bond of the community. This project marks the beginning of my exploration into promotional design, merging my passion for the underground scene with my technical artistic training.

Incision is the first installment in my Connection series and my debut project in graphic design. I challenged myself to create a grayscale flyer design as a proof-of-concept to demonstrate my skills to local event organizers within the tight-knit community of queer electronic music. Since I had never attempted anything graphic design-oriented before, I spent a lot of time researching rave flyers from 1980 to 2010. I took note of how rave flyers often used colored paper rather than colored designs, and implemented that into the printing process of my own flyer. Following a successful pitch to organizers, I secured a role with Roflcopter Party for their Halloween event “Partypasta”, marking the beginning of my professional relationship within the underground electronic music scene.

The third Connection piece was a poster focused on establishing a mascot that represents subcultures commonly found at alternative raves/parties. The poster was assembled with materials I often use to piece together my outfits before a party.

The fourth piece in Connection marks a series of personal firsts, featuring a model of the newly established mascot which I sculpted in Blender, 3D printed, and airbrushed. To house the character, I constructed a 1:1 cardboard replica of a CDJ-2000NXS and placed the figure atop the spinnable DJ deck. This one was a lot of fun, so I’ve included the full process.

The fifth iteration of Connection and my capstone project. I wanted to express my hobby of front-end web design and integrate the Connection series into my capstone project, inspired by early 2000s GeoCities aesthetics. This website is over 9,000 lines of custom code I wrote in VS Code that merges my academic research paper within a conceptual digital event flyer. Connected (Poster), 2026

This piece serves as the conclusion to “Connection”, For this poster, I wanted to combine elements from each of my Connection projects into a mixed-media composition that captures the online and intimate nature of electronic music.
Otis College of Art and Design O-Launch senior exhibit. The vision behind my booth was that the final restingplace of successful promotional materials like flyers are bedroom walls. I wanted to construct a booth that resembed a bedroom desk with an old computer setup for the connection website and hang up the flyers on fake walls. I made accessories commonly sold at underground EDM events such as kandi bracelets, perler bead designs, hair clips, linocut patches, stickers, and prints.

A collaboration event featuring the largest names from online collective 909 Worldwide’s roster and local support from Roflcopter Party.
Toon World was promoted over the course of one month and gathered a crowd of over 700 partygoers. The theme of the party was the nostalgic, whimsical yet eerie “Toon World” card archetype from the hit 2000s anime Yu-Gi-Oh!
Each performing artist was promoted online using custom thematic illustrations. Along with helping promote the show, these illustrations made up a merch line and supported the sale of a one-time batch of sold-out t-shirts, which have become a common sight in the underground rave scene in Los Angeles.

This Halloween Roflcopter Party event was stylized around the 2000s internet horror phenomenon known as “creepypastas”, a play on viral “copypasta” stories of the era.
The promotional material was directly inspired by the “Slender Man” horror game’s mechanics, specifically the iconic scattered pages. Partypasta was my debut in professional event promotion, developed on a rigorous 48-hour timeline that proved my ability to develop marketing campaigns and established my marketability.

Developed alongside my digital media game and entertainment minor, NoConnection is a standalone game concept with no relation to my Connection series, despite the coincidental name.
NoConnection is a post-apocalyptic FPS video game set during a demon invasion, centered around a shut-in determined to get his internet back.
“A demon apocalypse has taken over earth and you must fight your way through various levels of increasing difficulty to unlock and assemble items necessary to restore the internet connection to your apartment. Weapons and gear are crafted out of found materials of varying quality/durability.”

As hell overtakes Earth, shut-in Takumi Okada remains blissfully unaware, spending his days playing video games and watching anime behind blackout curtains with noise-canceling headphones. Living a hikikomori lifestyle of total isolation, Takumi’s life is perfect… until the power goes out. Confused and enraged, he pulls back the curtains to find the world outside destroyed with a demonic structure looming in the distance. Left without internet, Takumi improvises a combat rig from apartment scraps and grabs his “sentient” body pillow sidekick, Callie. While he’s convinced she’s a magical witch who guides him by decrypting demon code, she is, in reality, a silent pillow in the hands of a very delusional protagonist.
Play as Takumi in NoConnection, a comedic single-player, fast-paced, first-person shooter video game, as you craft gear to fight evil demons and restore the power grid along the way. Mixed media side quests and mini-games give the player immersive, entertaining breaks between slaying demons.

Nero’s Day at Disneyland is a cult classic experimental electronic music project started in 2005 by the incredibly talented musician Lauren Bousfield. In 2011 the project was initially laid to rest as Lauren Bousfield pursued releasing music under her own name, but the audience for Nero’s continued to grow, consistently resting at hundreds of thousands of monthy listeners despite over a decade long absence.
Lauren Bousfield had preformed at Toon World in 2025, and in July 2026 she announced that she was reviving Nero’s, and her first stage would be Roflcopter x Ravefurrest before taking it on tour in North America.
It was a packed show at nearly 1000 capacity, and the audience was full of die-hard fans, such as myself :] I created a themed t-shirt design for the event and designed the flyer. All the shirts sold out before the event concluded.
This was the greatest night of my life, hands down!

So, what made this so special? ...EVERYTHING, actually.
I first heard Nero’s in elementary school through the YouTuber PewDiePie, who used the song “Child Protective Services Theme Song” as his video outro in 2012 [example]. Unfortunately, he never properly credited the song or music artist (nor did he ask or pay to use it!) Thankfully, in early high school, I rediscovered Nero’s Day at Disneyland through a Spotify recommendation, and since then, Lauren Bousfield has been my most-listened-to artist of all time.
After working on Toon World, Lauren and I became friends, bonding over art, music, and our local community. I heard her plan to bring back the project and I was over the moon. It was truly so special to experience her performance as Nero’s alongside hundreds of fans like myself, in utter disbelief that it wasn’t a dream.
It’s more than just music to me. I used to come up with animatics in my head when I was a kid, and imagine the characters that would live in the world of Nero’s. Music is what inspires my art, and such a unique sound needs to be cherished.
And so- together we cried, we sweat (a lot), and we partied hard late into the night!!!
